Refurbished iPad mini 7

A refurbished iPad is a smart pick for most students. It runs the same apps as a new one for note-taking, reading, research, essays, and video lectures, but costs noticeably less. Every unit sold through a professional refurbisher is fully tested, wiped of previous user data, and covered by a warranty.

Most coursework is reading, typing, and browsing, which any recent iPad handles without strain. Pair one with a keyboard for essays and the Apple Pencil for handwritten notes and diagrams, and it doubles as a light laptop for lectures.

Split View lets you keep a PDF open next to your notes, which is the feature students lean on most.

Match the model to the workload rather than buying the newest one.

For storage, 128 GB is a comfortable floor once you add apps, files, and offline media. iCloud covers the rest, so paying for the largest tier is rarely worth it for coursework.

Refurbished pricing shifts with stock and model, so compare live prices rather than trusting a fixed figure, and set an alert if the grade you want is sold out. One thing to know: Apple's education pricing applies to new purchases only, not refurbished ones. See do student discounts apply to refurbished Apple products? for the specifics.

A refurbished iPad typically ships with basic accessories, but the exact contents depend on whether you buy from Apple or a third-party refurbisher. Knowing what to expect helps you budget for any extras you might need.

Apple Certified Refurbished iPads come with the same accessories as a brand-new unit:

• USB-C or Lightning cable (depending on the model)
• Power adapter
• Brand-new outer shell and battery
• New packaging (not the original retail box)

Apple treats its refurbished iPads like new products, so you receive a complete, ready-to-use package.

Most third-party refurbishers such as Back Market, Amazon Renewed, and others provide:

• A compatible charging cable
• A power adapter (though some sellers include only the cable)

The included accessories are not always Apple-branded. Generic cables and adapters are common, especially at lower price points. Always check the product listing for specifics before purchasing.

Accessories like the Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, and Smart Folio are never included with a refurbished iPad unless the listing explicitly states otherwise. If you need these peripherals, plan to purchase them separately. Our roundup of the best iPad accessories worth buying can point you to the ones that add the most value.

Before completing your order, look for an "included accessories" or "what's in the box" section on the product page.
