Yes. A refurbished Mac mini is one of the best-value Apple products you can buy. The Mac mini is already Apple's most affordable desktop, and buying refurbished brings the price down even further. Apple Silicon models (M1, M2, M4) deliver excellent performance for everyday tasks, creative work, and even software development. For a model-by-model breakdown, see our guide to the best refurbished Mac mini to buy.
Why the Mac mini is great for refurbished buyers
- Lower starting price: The Mac mini is Apple's cheapest desktop. Apple's own Certified Refurbished store advertises savings up to 15% versus new. Third-party sellers can go deeper on older models: Amazon Renewed listed the original M1 Mac mini from $515 as of September 2026, about 26% below Apple's $699 launch price.
- Minimal cosmetic risk: The Mac mini is a small aluminum box that sits on a desk. There is very little surface area for visible wear, so even a Grade B unit will likely look nearly perfect.
- Bring your own peripherals: Since the Mac mini does not include a display, keyboard, or mouse, you can pair it with equipment you already own.
Which Mac mini model should I look for?
- M4 Mac mini (2024): The latest model. Compact new design, excellent performance, Thunderbolt 4 ports. Best choice if available refurbished.
- M2 / M2 Pro Mac mini (2023): Strong performance, widely available refurbished at good prices.
- M1 Mac mini (2020): The first Apple Silicon Mac mini. Still receives macOS updates and handles most tasks with ease. Great budget choice.
- Intel Mac mini (2018): Very affordable, but nearing the end of macOS support. Only recommended for basic use or as a home server.
What to check before buying
- RAM: 8 GB is fine for basic tasks. Choose 16 GB or more for video editing, music production, or heavy multitasking. RAM is not upgradeable on Apple Silicon models.
- Storage: 256 GB is the base. Consider 512 GB or more if you store large files locally.
- Ports: M1 and M2 models have two Thunderbolt ports. The M2 Pro and M4 models have more, which matters if you connect multiple displays or peripherals.
- Warranty: Check the seller's warranty terms before purchasing.
