Is a Refurbished iPhone 13 mini Still Worth It in 2026?

Time-to-Refurb counts the days between a model's release and the first refurbished unit RefurbMe saw in stock. For the 13 mini that first unit appeared on October 27, 2021, at Back Market. On October 15, 2026, RefurbMe counted 58 in-stock US offers for it.

Quick verdict: who should buy a refurbished iPhone 13 mini

Buy one if pocket size matters more to you than anything else. The iPhone 13 mini has a 5.4-inch display, the A15 Bionic chip and a dual 12MP camera system with Main and Ultra Wide cameras, and it weighs 141 grams. (Apple) Apple rates it at up to 17 hours of video playback, two hours less than the 6.1-inch iPhone 13.

Skip it if you are a heavy user. A battery rated for 17 hours when new, in a phone that first went on sale in September 2021, is the weak point of every unit on sale today. Skip it too if you want Apple Intelligence, which the 13 mini does not get.

The price argument for the mini is thin. On October 15, 2026, the cheapest unlocked 128GB iPhone 13 cost $209 at eBay Refurbished, $16 more than the 13 mini floor, for the same chip and a longer-rated battery. You buy the mini for its size, not to save money.

How much does a refurbished iPhone 13 mini cost?

A refurbished iPhone 13 mini starts at $193 unlocked on RefurbMe today. Apple sold it for "$699 (US) before trade-in" at launch, and it went on sale on September 24, 2021. (Apple Newsroom)

These are the cheapest unlocked listings at each seller that were in stock and seen in the past three days, read from RefurbMe's live prices on October 15, 2026. The table compares price only. We did not check the grade of each listing, so read it before you pay.

At 128GB the two cheapest sellers sit $2 apart. At 256GB they do not. eBay Refurbished's only unlocked 256GB unit was $439, $175 more than Back Market's $264. Back Market's 256GB unit costs $71 more than its 128GB one, which is worth paying if you keep a large photo library on the phone.

Apple no longer sells the iPhone 13 mini new. The "All models" shelf of Apple's US iPhone store lists the iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone 17, iPhone 17e and iPhone 16, which we checked on October 15, 2026. RefurbMe had no Apple Certified Refurbished listing for the 13 mini that day, so every unit above comes from an independent refurbisher or program. Prices in Canada and the UK

Canadian supply is thin, with 10 in-stock offers on October 15, 2026. The cheapest unlocked 128GB unit was CA$394 at Amazon Renewed. Orchard had one at CA$419.

UK buyers have more choice, with 88 in-stock offers. Back Market had an unlocked 128GB unit at £189. eBay Refurbished matched it at £189. Amazon Renewed followed at £209, Reboxed at £214 and MusicMagpie at £219. At 256GB, Back Market led at £215, only £26 more than its 128GB unit. Battery life on a small 2021 phone

Battery is the main complaint about the 13 mini, and on a refurbished unit it is also the main risk. Apple rates the 13 mini at up to 17 hours of video playback, against 15 hours for the 12 mini and 19 hours for the iPhone 13. (Apple) Those figures describe a new battery.

Ask for 85 percent battery health or more and treat 80 percent as the floor. Apple says batteries of iPhone 14 models and earlier are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions. (Apple) On a phone this small, a battery at 80 percent leaves you four fifths of an already short day.

Check the battery the day the phone arrives, inside the return window. Open Settings, tap Battery, then tap Battery Health & Charging to see the maximum capacity and whether a replacement is recommended. Apple says the cycle count appears in Settings only on iPhone 15 models and later, so ask the seller for it before you buy.

Then open Settings, tap General, and then tap About. If the phone has been repaired, you see a Parts and Service History section there, and Apple marks a nongenuine part as Unknown. (Apple) A recent genuine battery replacement is the best news you can get on a 13 mini, since it resets the part most likely to wear out. Each seller sets its own battery floor. Back Market promises a minimum 80 percent battery capacity on its Excellent, Good and Fair phones and 90 percent on Premium. eBay Refurbished lists 85 percent or more at Excellent and 80 percent or more at Very Good and Good. Amazon Renewed promises more than 80 percent, and more than 90 percent on Renewed Premium.

Seller grades and warranties compared

One seller's "Excellent" is not another's, so compare the terms before the price. The table below comes from each seller's own US policy page, fetched on October 15, 2026.

Back Market says an Excellent device shows "Almost no signs of wear. The body may have very light micro-scratches." eBay Refurbished describes its Excellent grade as like-new condition with no visible wear from quality-vetted sellers. Amazon sorts Renewed products into "one of four conditions: Premium, Excellent, Good, or Acceptable".

Warranty terms vary more than grades. Back Market's limited warranty covers defects "for 12 months after the delivery date". Amazon says most Renewed items include a 90-day return period, and that select items include its 30-day return period followed by a free 11-month limited warranty serviced by Asurion. Why there is no newer iPhone mini

Apple dropped the mini size after the 13 mini. In September 2022 it introduced the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, and Apple's announcement says "A new, larger 6.7-inch size joins the popular 6.1-inch design". (Apple Newsroom)

The closest thing in Apple's current lineup is the iPhone Duo, a foldable with a 5.4-inch outer display that opens to a 7.6-inch folding display. (Apple) It is not a small phone in the 13 mini's sense, since it weighs 254 grams against 141 grams for the 13 mini. Apple's US store opens iPhone Duo pre-orders on October 16.

Refurbished 13 mini vs 12 mini vs iPhone 13: which to buy

Against the 12 mini, the 13 mini is the better buy. At 128GB it costs $54 more and gives you the A15 chip, two more hours of rated video playback and twice the base storage. The 12 mini makes sense only for light use at its floor, an unlocked 64GB unit at $136 at Back Market.

Against the iPhone 13, the question is size alone. The 13 has the same chip and a battery rated two hours longer, and at 256GB it was the cheaper phone on October 15, 2026, at $253 at eBay Refurbished. If you are not set on a small phone, buy the 13. How long will Apple support the iPhone 13 mini?

The iPhone 13 mini runs iOS 27, the current release. Apple's iOS 27 compatibility page lists the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 12 mini. (Apple) It does not get Apple Intelligence. Apple says Apple Intelligence in iOS 27 is "available on iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone Air". (Apple)

Apple publishes no end-of-support date for any iPhone, so nobody can promise you a number of future iOS releases. The oldest phones on the iOS 27 list are the iPhone 11 family and the second-generation iPhone SE. The 13 mini is newer than both, which points to more updates but guarantees none. Carrier-locked vs unlocked listings and how to check

On the 13 mini, a locked unit costs more, not less. On October 15, 2026, Back Market's cheapest 128GB unit locked to AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon was $256, $63 more than its unlocked 128GB unit at $193. At 256GB its AT&T and T-Mobile units were $327, also $63 above its unlocked unit at $264. Amazon Renewed had no unlocked unit seen in the past three days, only a 256GB unit locked to Boost Mobile at $302.

Buy unlocked. A locked phone works only on that carrier until the carrier unlocks it, and Apple says "Only your current carrier can unlock your iPhone". To check a phone you receive, open Settings, General, About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked. (Apple)

2. eBay Refurbished. An unlocked 128GB unit at $195, $2 more than Back Market. Its only unlocked 256GB unit was $439. Its grades come with a battery floor, a one-year warranty from vetted sellers and 30-day free returns.
3. Amazon Renewed. No unlocked unit seen in the past three days, only a 256GB unit locked to Boost Mobile at $302. Most Renewed items come with a 90-day return period, the longest here, but Amazon adds an 11-month Asurion warranty only on select items, so check the product page.

Will refurbished iPhone 13 mini prices keep falling?

Not by much. The lowest price RefurbMe has recorded for a refurbished iPhone 13 mini in the US is $189, at Gazelle on March 7, 2026. Today's unlocked floor of $193 is $4 above that record.

RefurbMe's Refurb Discount for the iPhone family, the median saving of a refurbished unit against its launch price, is 77 percent (as of October 2026, RefurbMe iPhone stats). That median covers every iPhone RefurbMe tracks, from this year's models to ones many years old, so it says little about where the 13 mini goes next. Today's $193 floor is about 72 percent below the $699 launch price.

With the floor this close to its record, waiting is unlikely to save you much at 128GB. Set a price alert if you want a 256GB unit and can wait for a better price.
